This training course enables the designated employee to acquire the knowledge and skills required to carry out their occupational health and safety duties within any Group A company (with between 1 and 15 employees), in accordance with Luxembourg regulations on health and safety at work. It provides the essential foundations for understanding the employer’s obligations regarding the prevention of occupational risks, identifying the main risks present within the company and contributing to the implementation of an effective safety approach.

In accordance with Article 5 of the Grand-Ducal Regulation of 9 June 2006 on the Designated Employee, the designated employee must possess the necessary skills to carry out their duties, in particular:

  • a suitable basic qualification;
  • sufficient professional experience;
  • training appropriate to the role in question.

By the end of the training course, participants will be able to effectively assist their employer in identifying risks, implementing preventive measures and continuously improving working conditions.

Designated employees in any Group A company with between 1 and 15 employees. Anyone with an interest in the subject: company directors, managers, health and safety assistants or advisers, etc. Prerequisites: At least one year’s professional experience in a field at least comparable to the activity of the company concerned.

Basic training:

  • To understand the role, duties and responsibilities of the designated employee within the company;
  • To be familiar with the main legal obligations regarding health and safety at work;
  • Identify those involved in prevention and collaborate effectively with them;
  • To understand the principles of occupational health and the arrangements for the medical monitoring of employees;
  • Respond appropriately in the event of an accident, a serious incident or an occupational illness, and help to prevent risks.

Specific training:

  • Identify the main occupational risks associated with machinery, work equipment, material handling, hazardous substances, working at height, electrical hazards and fire;
  • To contribute to risk analysis and assessment in order to propose appropriate preventive measures;
  • To implement the general principles of prevention and promote best practice in occupational health and safety;
  • To contribute to the operational organisation of safety within the company (safety register, safety inspections, emergency plans, training and awareness-raising);
  • To support employers in developing a prevention strategy aimed at reducing occupational risks and improving working conditions.

  • The duties and role of the designated worker
  • Legislation on health and safety at work
  • Health at work
  • Accidents at work and on the way to and from work, serious incidents and occupational diseases
Specialist training (8 hours)
  • Machinery and work equipment
  • The method for analysing and assessing risks
  • Risk factors and preventive measures
  • Operational management of health and safety (technical module)
  • The general principles of prevention
The course alternates between theoretical input, discussions based on participants’ experiences, case studies and practical exercises based on real-life situations encountered in the workplace. Course materials: Course materials will be provided at the start of the course.
Exam: No exam. A training certificate will be issued
