People do not check their hearts and feelings at the entrance to their workplace. Their view of their working life has a substantial effect on their commitment and productivity. A growing number of companies have appointed Chief Happiness Officers (CHO: happiness managers). The job of these people is not to give employees a deck chair, a parasol, and a towel to make them feel as if they are on vacation at the beach. Instead, HR directors ensure that people feel happy with the conditions under which they carry out their respective tasks and projects. Science shows that happy people perform better, are healthier, and are more loyal.
