In Luxembourg, the prevention of occupational risks is at the heart of employers’ legal obligations. Every company must guarantee the safety and health of its employees by implementing appropriate measures, including training.
Below is a non-exhaustive list of mandatory training courses for any business with at least 1 employee.
First aid: knowing how to handle an accident situation
First aid training is one of the pillars of workplace prevention. Participants learn how to intervene quickly in the event of an accident, illness, cardiac arrest, etc. : protect, alert, and rescue a victim. The presence of trained staff is essential to ensure an immediate and appropriate response while waiting for emergency services to arrive, in order to limit the severity of an incident.

Evacuation Officer: organizing the safe exit of the premises
In the event of a fire or a serious incident requiring the evacuation of the premises, employees with responsibilities within the evacuation procedure who are part of the evacuation team must be specifically trained. The training provides the necessary skills regarding general fire prevention rules and guiding occupants to assembly points in accordance with the internal procedure in place, to wait safely for the arrival of emergency services. The role of the evacuation team is essential to ensure a rapid, orderly, and safe evacuation.

First Intervention Team Member (EPI): safely intervening in the event of a fire starting
EPI training prepares employees to act immediately when a fire breaks out. Through realistic scenarios, participants learn to recognize different types of fires, use extinguishers effectively, secure the area, and prevent the spread of flames. These practical skills allow staff, after alerting emergency services, to intervene before the fire becomes uncontrollable in order to preserve the infrastructure.

Workplace ergonomics: preventing physical disorders
Ergonomics has become a major issue, particularly in the face of the increase in musculoskeletal disorders, back pain, or lower back pain related to prolonged restrictive postures and/or manual handling and repetitive movements. This training allows for the analysis and adaptation of workstations to reduce physical strain. Participants learn to adopt correct postures, adjust work equipment, and learn a few warm-up and stretching exercises to practice daily to relieve and/or prevent poor posture.

Designated Worker: a key player in prevention
In Luxembourg, every company must appoint a designated worker to assist the employer with occupational health and safety matters. This specific training, recognized by the ITM, provides the necessary knowledge in risk assessment, regulations, technical safety, and the organization of prevention. The designated worker plays a strategic role in risk prevention and the continuous improvement of working conditions.
